How to read this map

You are at the centre, on the ground. Left and right are distance in any direction — the rules do not care which way an aircraft comes from, so the picture is mirrored. Up is the aircraft's height above ground at your location, which is what a rule is written against. Your drone's own altitude does not come into it: a mission can climb from 20 ft to 400 ft, and the rules mean the same thing the whole way up.

The dashed line marks 400 ft, the ceiling you are flying under. A red hatched area is a hole — rules surround it, but an aircraft there raises nothing. Grey is beyond your furthest or highest rule and is simply not watched.

In the pilotADSB app, rules are processed from top to bottom. The first rule that a plane triggers is the rule that will be acted on for visual and audible alerts.
